SD Secretary of State Administrative Services Overview Lobbyist Registration

Mission: Serving the Legislature and the public by expeditiously filing accurate public records.

The Secretary of State registers anyone who will serve as a lobbyist during the legislative session. A lobbyist must have an official name badge which is issued when they register, and they must wear the badge at all times when lobbying. Lobbyists must also file a written authorization from their employer stating that they are authorized to lobby on the employer's behalf. The registration fee is $35.

If an individual is speaking on his or her own behalf they do not need to register.
