Lobbyist RegistrationThe Secretary of State registers anyone
who will serve as a lobbyist during the legislative session. A lobbyist must
have an official name badge which is issued when they register, and they must
wear the badge at all times when lobbying. Lobbyists must also file a written
authorization from their employer stating that they are authorized to lobby on
the employer's behalf. The registration fee is $40.
If an individual is speaking on his or her own behalf they do not need to
register.

All lobbyists and lobbyist employers must complete
expense reports that are due in the Office of the Secretary of State July 1
of each year. Lobbyists must report all expenses paid or incurred in connection
with promoting, opposing or influencing legislation in any manner during the
session of the South Dakota Legislature. This does not include the lobbyist's
salary or fee to lobby.
If an individual registers as a lobbyist prior to the
start of the Legislative Session, their lobbyist packet will be
available for pickup on the first day of session. |
