Request Copies of Filed Petitions
Use the Petition Copy Request Form to request copies of petitions filed with the South Dakota Secretary of State.
Public Availability
Petitions are released after the validation process
Under SDCL 12-1-39, a submitted petition generally is not available to the public until validation is complete and the filing office has filed or rejected the petition, except as otherwise provided for statewide ballot-measure petitions.
The completed request form is itself a public document.

How to request petition copies
Select the format
Choose an electronic file or paper copies. Large electronic files may be delivered through a secure website.
Sign the request
Sign and date the form. Do not use an electronic signature font.
Return and pay
Email, mail, or fax the signed form. Payment must be received before electronic files or paper copies are provided.

Statewide candidates
Electronic data file or emailed list for a statewide candidate nominating petition.
New political party petitions

Statewide ballot measures
Electronic petition file for a statewide ballot measure.
Paper copies
A two-sided petition sheet is charged as two pages and would cost $4.
