Use the Voter Information Portal to locate your polling place, view voter-specific information, and check your registration. Your polling place is also shown on the voter acknowledgement notice sent by your county election official after registration.

Election Day

Polling hours

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time

A voter who is in line when the polls close must be allowed to vote.

Identification

What identification may be used

South Dakota ID

South Dakota driver's license or nondriver identification card.

Federal ID

U.S. government photo identification, including a passport.

Military ID

United States Armed Forces identification.

Student ID

Current photo identification from a South Dakota high school or accredited postsecondary institution.

Tribal ID

Tribal photo identification.

No photo identification?

A voter without an approved photo ID may sign a personal identification affidavit and vote a regular ballot.

Registration Status

Am I registered?

Your application must be processed and accepted by your county election official before you are registered. If accepted, you will receive an acknowledgement notice. Contact the county election official if you do not receive the notice within 15 days after submitting your application.
