Deadlines

Withdrawal and vacancy timeline

Primary

April 2, 2026

Deadline to withdraw from the June 2 Primary Election: 5 p.m. local time.

A properly sent registered-mail filing may satisfy the statutory primary withdrawal provision.

General

August 4, 2026

Deadline to withdraw from the November 3 General Election: 5 p.m. local time.

There is no registered-mail option that permits receipt after the deadline.

Vacancy

August 11, 2026

Deadline for the appropriate party committee to certify a nominee selected to fill a vacancy: 5 p.m. local time.

Process

Where and how to file

  1. Complete the sworn request.
    The candidate completes and signs the prescribed withdrawal request before an officer authorized to administer oaths.
  2. File with the correct office.
    The request is filed with the same officer where the candidate's nominating petition was filed.
  3. Meet the deadline.
    The filing office must receive the document by the applicable statutory deadline, subject only to the registered-mail provisions allowed by law.
  4. Fill a qualifying vacancy.
    If a party vacancy may be filled, the appropriate party committee meets and timely certifies the replacement candidate.
